2,028 phones stolen or lost successfully tracked down by Telangana police

Since April 19 of this year, the Telangana police have successfully tracked down and returned to their rightful owners a total of 2,028 stolen or lost mobile phones using the Central Equipment Identify Register (CEIR) portal.

Telangana police, in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications, established the CEIR to register complaints about lost or stolen mobile phones. Following the filing of the complaint, the officials would block the mobile phones, rendering them inaccessible for the person who has the gadget.

According to Mahesh Muralidhar Bhagwat, Additional DGP Crime Investigation Department and the designated nodal officer of the CEIR portal in Telangana State, between April 20 and June 13, a total of 31,292 mobile phones were blocked and 5442 were traced using the CEIR.

“The Telangana police was selected for pilot project of the CEIR which was officially launched on May 17 in the country while in the State it was started on April 19. All the police units have contributed in tracing the lost/stolen mobile phones,” said Telangana DGP Anjani Kumar.

Telangana police initially organized training for 60 police officers, who later trained many other officers across the state’s 780 police stations. The Department of Telecommunications created the CEIR portal.
