52% of OTT consumers in Hyderabad prefer Hindi content, while only 14% watch Telugu shows

In a recent study, Hyderabad’s streaming habits were revealed in some interesting detail, and the results are sure to raise some eyebrows.

A report by Red Matter Technologies titled ‘Understanding Paid OTT Subscribers of Hyderabad’ shows that Hyderabadis consume OTT content over three hours daily, with weekends showing a 10 percent spike in viewership

It was revealed that a whopping 52 per cent of OTT consumers in the city prefer Hindi content, while only 14 per cent watch Telugu shows.

The ladies seem to prefer Hindi and English shows, with 60% of female viewers tuning in to these languages. There is no doubt that regional players are struggling to make a name for themselves in the cutthroat world of OTT video content.

When it comes to the devices used to consume all this content, it seems that Hyderabadis like to keep things mobile, with more than half of the audience preferring to catch their favourite shows on-the-go.

Prime Video dominates the field with 70 percent of users preferring it over other platforms. Regional and broadcast platforms follow closely behind, but their popularity appears to be lagging.

What about the people behind these screens? The report’s target audience appears to be tech-savvy individuals who value internet subscriptions. They primarily work and have a monthly total household income of approximately Rs 60,000.

It’s also worth noting that the younger generation in Hyderabad prefers to binge-watch their shows alone, whereas the older generation prefers to do so with their families.

However, one thing they all appear to have in common is a love of music streaming, with 62% of the audience using an active music streaming service.
