AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi said on Tuesday that his party was ready to take to the streets if necessary to fight the BJP-led government because of the Centre’s discriminatory attitude toward the southern states, particularly Telangana.
On Tuesday, during a debate on the Appropriation Bill in the Assembly, he lashed out at the Centre, accusing it of discriminating against states, particularly a new state like Telangana. He objected to the Jalshakti Ministry’s notification to take control of the Krishna and Godavari River Basins.
“People who have risen to power on the basis of hatred are attempting to halt projects in Telangana.” We are concerned about the notification because it would jeopardise people’s interests. MIM supports the government’s proposal for 50-50 water sharing.

“We will come on roads if necessary to fight the Centre,” Akbaruddin warned. He stated that the party would oppose the privatisation of Singareni and urged the government to take over the 51 per cent stake in the Centre. Concerning minorities, He stated that the government has not appointed anyone from the minority community to the State Public Service Commission or the Higher Education Council as vice-chairman. He also pointed out ‘discrepancies’ in allocations and spending.
“The actual releases were 50%, which is significantly less than the actual allocations.”
He requested that the CM provide Rs 5 crore to MLAs as a constituency development fund. In terms of the Old City, Akbaruddin wanted the government to build Osmania Hospital and bridges across the Musi to rehabilitate street vendors.
He demanded that the government widen the roads in the Old City and provide Rs 200 crore for land acquisition. He urged the government to keep the fruit market open until the new market gets ready.
