Asaduddin Owaisi slams UP govt over law and order situation after Atiq Ahmed’s killing

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has slammed the ruling BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over the recent killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed in Prayagraj. In a press conference on Sunday morning, Asaduddin Owaisi stated that the state government is not running the state by the rule of law but by the rule of guns.

He called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation and the formation of a committee with no officer from Uttar Pradesh to look into the matter. Asaduddin Owaisi described the killing as a “cold-blooded murder” and emphasized the need to prevent radicalization.

When asked about his safety concerns in visiting Uttar Pradesh, Asaduddin Owaisi asserted that he was not afraid to visit the state and even declared, “I am ready to die.” He also quoted a famous Bollywood song, “Jab pyaar kiya toh darna kya” (Why fear death when you are loved).

Atiq Ahmed, a former MP from Phulpur constituency, was lodged in Sabarmati jail in Gujarat and brought to Prayagraj for a hearing. On April 13, he and his brother were shot dead in police custody while being taken back to the jail. The incident has sparked controversy and raised questions about the state’s law and order situation.
