BRS MLC K Kavitha Addresses Oxford University on Telangana Model for Inclusive Growth

On Monday, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC K Kavitha delivered a keynote talk at Oxford University in the United Kingdom, focussing on the inclusive growth of the Telangana model and its significance for the nation.

Kavitha stressed that the Telangana model, led by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, goes beyond economic numbers. It serves as a roadmap for inclusive and sustainable development in India.

Highlighting crucial aspects of the Telangana model, Kavitha outlined how the state saw rapid and inclusive growth under Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao’s humanistic approach to governing. She compared him to a modern Chanakya, in charge of changing once-deserted plains into productive agricultural fields.

Telangana, according to Kavitha, is a symbol of peace and communal harmony. Unlike during its period as part of unified Andhra Pradesh, Telangana has not had a single communal riot since achieving separate statehood under the Chandrashekhar Rao rule. She praised the Telangana administration for properly combining growth and welfare, resulting in trailblazing progress in a variety of fields.

Kavitha recalled the long-fought campaign for a distinct Telangana state, which was launched in 2001 by Chief Minister Chandrashekhar Rao. Telangana became a distinct state in 2014, after 14 years of struggle, thanks to the rising movement led by Chandrashekhar Rao.

Reflecting on the state’s situation before to independence, she remarked that nine of the region’s ten districts were deemed backward. Farmer suicides were among the highest in the country, there was a serious lack of energy, causing companies to close for two days a week, and there was chronic water shortages. Since statehood, the transition has been tremendous, with surplus power, agricultural expansion, and increasing food output.

Kavitha also presented insights into Telangana’s economic progress, noting the significant increase in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and per capita income. According to the NFHS 2019-21, the state’s emphasis on equal income distribution is a credit to Chandrashekhar Rao’s innovative leadership.

She also cited major projects such as the Rythu Bandhu investment assistance plan, free irrigation water for farmers, free power 24 hours a day, the Dharani portal for safe land records, Mission Kakatiya for pond restoration, and the Kaleshwaram project, which enables year-round agricultural development.

Kavitha went on to describe the state’s significant investments in several areas, emphasizing growth and development in industries, information technology, education, health, and welfare programs. She cited the absence of the Women’s Reservation Act and OBC quotas at the national level as evidence of the federal government’s lack of commitment in these areas.

The address at Oxford University emphasized the Telangana model’s successes and revolutionary possibilities for inclusive and sustainable development in India.
