Chief Justice of India Justice NV Ramana today advised two Telugu-speaking states to solve the ongoing disputes over a share of each state in Krishna river water through mediation.
He made this suggestion while dealing with a petition filed on the issue .
The CJI suggested the senior advocates of the two states to take a decision over the petition filed before him after consulting their respective states. The counsel for the Telangana state told the SC that there was no need to hold any hearing on the petition filed by the AP as the Central government issued a gazette notification fixing the jurisdiction of the Krishna river board. However, the counsel for the AP urged the SC to issue orders for the immediate implementation of the gazette instead of its appointed day of October and added that he was urged the court to issue orders as they did not want to lose the water for four months.

However, the CJ, while citing his past experience in mediation intervened at this juncture and told the counsels of the two states to solve their problems through mediation.
He said that he would adjourn the matter for a different date if the two states wanted more suggestions from the central government and added that he would also transfer the case to a different bench.
Stating that he belonged to the two Telugu-speaking states, Justice Ramana asked the counsels to hold discussions with their respective state governments and arrive at a decision on the issue. He later adjourned the case to Wednesday.
