China extends congratulations to Biden and Harris on election win

A week after the US Presidential elections were announced, China has extended its wishes to the newly elected President and Vice President, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
The most populated country in the world had not congratulated the winners as they allegedly wanted the titles to be formalized.

Joe Biden caught on to his victory after winning enough states to be crowned President-elect. Referring to both the winners who will take up their job on January 20th in the White House, Wang Wenbin, the spokesman for the foreign ministry of China said, “We respect the choice of the American people. We extend congratulations to Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris.”
However, he did reiterate the Chinese stand on the completion of legal matters for determining the results of the elections.

China was in a tough state as Trump continues to term the elections as “fraud” and refuses to accept Biden’s victory. The President and China have been on bad terms since Trump threw a massive amount of sanctions on the country.

Despite his refusal, the US media said on Thursday that Biden has concreted his win after gaining 5 million more votes than Trump in the presidential race, making him the clear winner.

Being unable to accept his defeat, Trump, on many occasions, called the election a “fraud” and went on to claim that an election equipment manufacturer had apparently “deleted 2.7 million votes for him” across the country. Although his tweets have been trolled a lot, some of the Republicans, including Mark Pompeo continue to support him.

Trump, nevertheless, couldn’t fetch anything as the US election officials said that there was no evidence to prove the existence of any compromised ballots or fraud voting systems.
Following November 3rd’s results, several countries had conveyed their wishes to the President-elect and Vice President-elect, though Russia’s Putin and China’s Xi remained silent and chose not to congratulate them.

Interestingly, Xi Jinping had extended his wishes to Donald Trump on the immediate next day following the declaration of the results in 2016.

Tensions between the US and China continue to remain the worst in ages as the nations are arguing over a wide range of issues including technology and trade to Hong Kong and the blame game of coronavirus.

However, the two signed a deal in January of 2020 by which a partial armistice was agreed upon, requiring China to import $200bn worth of American goods within a span of 2 years.
Trump also brought Beijing in the dock as he said Chinese business houses like TikTok, Huawei, and more posed a threat to the US security systems.

Despite Biden being elected, analysts do not believe that things will be become better between the two world powers due to the President-elect’s stance on China’s treatment of Uyghurs that he termed as “genocide”. He also called the Chinese President “thug” during a party debate.

With all the points in hand, it is tough to say whether matters will resolve between the US and China or will get worse.
