New York: As the results began coming in following the conclusion of a bitterly contested US presidential election, both the candidates staked claims to triumph with Democratic candidate Joe Biden announcing “we’re going to win this”, and President Donald Trump accused Democrats of “trying to steal the election.”
Subsequent to Biden making the claim at a rally of his supporters in Delaware not long before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Trump claimed that he will have a “big win”.
He followed up with another tweet making the allegation and stated, “We are up big, but they are trying to steal the election. We will never let them do it.”
He included, “Votes cannot be cast after the Polls are closed.”
Biden told his supporters at a drive-in gathering, I’m here to tell you tonight we believe we’re on track to win this election. I’m optimistic about this outcome.”
In a short appearance before supporters in Wilmington, Delaware, the ex-VP said the night was going well, despite the battleground state of Florida being taken away by his competitor, Donald Trump.
In any case, he added that “it ain’t over until each vote is counted until each ballot is counted”.
Trump’s statement was marked by Twitter as “some or all of the content shared in this Tweet is disputed and might be misleading about an election or other civic process”.
In his tweet, Trump added nothing to back up his allegation of theft. During the campaign Trump has tried to cast doubt on the integrity of the electoral process, consistently claiming, for example, that mail-in voting will lead to fraud.
Trump won the pivotal state of Florida, yet seems to have lost Arizona, which would limit his way to triumph.
Not long before 1.30 a.m., the NBC News network revealed Trump ahead with 213 electoral votes to Biden 210. For a victory, 270 Election votes are required.
Serval significant states like Pennsylvania are yet to announce their results and it was too early to call the election for both of the candidates.
