Cyber Warriors to Be Deployed in Telangana State

For the very first time in India, Telangana police have decided to deploy a unit named ‘cyber warriors’ in police stations all across the state to battle cybercrime prevalent nowadays. Telangana police cyber warriors to combat cybercrime. Police DGP conveyed the new initiative of Cyber warrior unite. A total of 1988 personnel would be deployed for the same.

M. Mahender Reddy, the Director-General of Police had announced the launch event for the new initiative under which about two to five police personnel for each police station would be provided training to combat and counteract cyber theft as ‘cyber warriors’ and to investigate cyber-crimes, as well as to create public awareness.

Considering the rising number of cyber-crimes, the state police have now embarked on a new initiative. The Director-General of Police had launched a week-long training program for approximately 1,988 officials who were selected as cyber warriors.

There would be about two ‘cyber warriors’ stationed in each police area in rural areas while their numbers would be three in each police station in semi-urban areas. However, in all of the police stations coming under police commissionerates, five cops would be trained as ‘cyber warriors’.

Speaking on the launch event, the state Police head noted that as human life is increasingly becoming digital, cyber-crimes are also seen on the rise. He added that this was the first of its type initiative undertaken anywhere in the country.

The police chief also said that since 4G mobile services have been already extended to remote villages, cyber-crimes are now possible from any part of the world. He expressed hope that the cyber warriors would be playing a key role in the prevention of cyber-crimes and would also ensure in-depth investigations into such crimes.

The DGP also said that the 17 functional verticals were already prepared for the day-to-day functioning of all police stations. Cyber-crimes will now be becoming the 18th functional vertical to enhance the performance of the state police force.

DGP Mahender Reddy quoted that since cyber-crimes are vast of varying nature from the conventional crimes, special training would be provided to cyber warriors but not only to prevent the cyber-crimes but also to create know-how among the people and to also investigate the digital crimes.

He quoted that every crime happening is sure to have some cyber-related component, and so the ‘cyber warriors’ would majorly help the police officers in investigating the conventional crimes and that the investigations could be completed expeditiously.

The DGP pointing out the day-by-day crime rates, said that the cybercriminals are now using modern tricks and techniques and said that the state police could hence keep itself abreast with the latest technological developments so as to tackle the cyber-crimes.

The police head added that 2021 had been declared as the cyber safety year and so as a part of this, Rajesh Kumar the Inspector General of Police had been appointed as the special officer of the cyber cell. He said the Inspector General will be coordinating with Central government departments and the police officials of all the states about cyber-crime.
