In a frantic incident, a GHMC garbage dumping yard at the Katedan area was burned down to ashes mysteriously today at a time when the incessant rain was busy lashing the city and the suburban areas.
In a post-dusk incident, nearby people saw flares coupled with thick smoke frothing out from the heaps of trash bags in a Dry Resource Collection Center at Katedan that soon engulfed the entire compound.
Though the GHMC staff rushed to the spot and tried to douse down the flames but to no avail as the blaze bumped up grievously due to presence of plastic material in the trash bags that helped the inferno spread into the compound.

It is learnt that the trash bags and the machinery used to segregate and crush the waste material was gutted into ashes by the time the fire brigade reached the spot.
It took at least half an hour for the fire brigade personnel and the GHMC staff to doze down the flames before estimating the extent of the damage.
