ED interrogates prime accused in TSPSC exam paper leak case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has started interrogating the prime accused in the Telangana State Public Service (TSPSC) exam paper leak case. Praveen Kumar and Rajasekhar Reddy, both suspended employees of TSPSC, were taken into custody by the ED officials at Chanchalguda Central Jail on Monday for alleged involvement in the case. The central agency, which is investigating money laundering charges in connection with the case, is likely to question them about the alleged involvement of some influential people.

On a plea filed by the ED, a city court granted two-day custody of the accused. The ED officials are believed to be questioning the two accused based on the information obtained from Shankara Lakshmi, who was in charge of the confidential section room at TSPSC. She had appeared before the ED on April 11 and was grilled for over 10 hours.

The question papers of various exams conducted by the TSPSC for recruitment in government departments were stolen from the computer in the confidential section by the accused Praveen and Rajasekhar. The TSPSC had cancelled at least four exams, including the Group-1 Preliminary exam, after the question paper leak came to light.

After the ED registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in connection with the question paper leak case on March 31, the agency began the probe into money laundering charges after allegations that those who leaked the question papers received money from abroad through hawala channels, collecting around Rs 40 lakh.

The SIT of Hyderabad police, which is also probing the paper leak case, has arrested 17 accused in the case since March 13. The opposition parties Congress and BJP have accused the BRS government of being responsible for the leak, and state Congress president A. Revanth Reddy has lodged a complaint with the ED, seeking a probe into money laundering allegations in the case.
