Facebook Rolls Out New Updates Regarding Data Portability

In the latest update, Facebook Monday announced several updates regarding data portability. With the new announcements, Facebook plans to make data portability more seamless for their users as they give more control to them.

Facebook Improves User Experience(s)

In the announcement, the company said that they have rebuilt their data portability tool from the group up. From now on, people will be able to transfer a copy of their data from Facebook to other services via its Transfer Your Information (TYI) feature.
These updates include improved user experience with two new destinations (Photobucket and Google Calendar) and Facebook Events.
Hadi Michel, Product Manager at Facebook said that with the new updates, people will be easier time checking the destinations and the data types that are being supported. Furthermore, this would provide better transparency in data transfer.
Meanwhile, users will be able to simultaneously start multiple data transfers with one destination and filter that allows people to be more precise with their data selection.
“We’re also working with developers to expand the selection of data types and destinations we support,” the company said.

Facebook To Persuade Government For Clearer Directions

To make the data safe from both sides, Facebook said that they are continuing to persuade governments to make regulations much clearer. This will include informing people about who is responsible for protecting the data as it gets transferred.
The updates come as part of Facebook’s open-source Data Transfer project. This supports motivation in data portability across the industry and further pushes technology. It comes after Facebook, in April, introduce two data portability types that would help the users to directly transfer their posts and notes to Google docs, WordPress and Blogger.
