Families Request Extension on 2BHK Move-In Deadline Due to Children’s Exams

Families allotted double-bedroom (2BHK) houses in Kullur are appealing to municipal authorities for an extension on their move-in deadline, citing disruptions to their children’s education. During Tuesday’s grievance redressal program at Prajavani, held at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Praja Bhavan, 450 applications were submitted, highlighting various issues.

Mohammad Shafi from Bazar Ghat shared his concerns about the December 31 move-in deadline set by municipal authorities. Shafi explained that relocating to Kullur at this time would severely impact his children’s studies as their schools are located in the city, and exams are approaching. “Traveling long distances daily will affect their preparation,” he said, adding that he had submitted a grievance requesting an extension until the exams conclude.

Shafi is among 10 families facing similar issues, all of whom have filed requests for additional time to move. “We are hopeful that officials will consider our situation and provide a positive response,” he stated.

In addition to grievances from 2BHK allottees, other citizens also raised concerns. Yasmeen Begum, a 60-year-old daily wage worker from Nampally, sought updates on her application for housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) scheme. Despite completing all required procedures and submitting the necessary documents, she was informed that her application record was missing.

“I’ve filed complaints and resubmitted my application, but there has been no progress,” Yasmeen said. Struggling financially, she urged authorities to expedite the process. She highlighted additional challenges, including the lack of pension benefits, relief on utility bills, and housing assistance despite being eligible.

The Prajavani program received a total of 450 grievances across various departments, including 150 for Panchayati Raj and Rural Development, 119 for Power, 68 for Revenue, two for Pravasi, and 113 for other departments. Officials have assured that the grievances will be addressed promptly.

The concerns raised at the event underscore the challenges faced by residents navigating housing schemes and welfare programs. Authorities are expected to review and respond to the grievances in the coming weeks.
