K T Rama Rao, Telangana’s Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), has announced that approximately 70,000 double-bedroom houses (2BHK) under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) are ready for occupancy and will be distributed to beneficiaries in five to six phases.
Minister K T Rama Rao urged authorities to prepare for the first phase of distribution, which is likely to begin within a week, during a high-level review meeting held at Pragathi Bhavan. This decision is part of the state’s attempts to offer its inhabitants with affordable homes.
The goal was to build 100,000 two-bedroom residences within the GHMC boundaries, but only 75,000 were completed. Nearly 4,500 of these have already been handed on to in-situ beneficiaries.
According to officials, the process of transferring the residences to eligible beneficiaries is moving quickly, with the verification of candidates who have already submitted their applications nearing completion.
Several ministers, including Talasani Srinivas Yadav, P Sabitha Indra Reddy, Md. Mahmood Ali, Ch Malla Reddy, and Deputy Speaker T Padma Rao Goud, attended the meeting and discussed various aspects of the distribution process with senior officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
The ministers stressed the need of identifying beneficiaries without political intervention through field visits. They also discussed the Gruha Lakshmi Scheme and the need to speed up the implementation process. The public is eagerly awaiting the distribution of these affordable housing units, and the government intends to establish a fair and open procedure for allocating these homes.
