Farmer’s Suicide in Adilabad Sparks Outrage Over Congress Governance

A heart-wrenching CCTV video of a tribal farmer’s suicide has ignited widespread outrage and renewed criticism of the Congress government’s handling of farmers’ welfare in Telangana. The distressing incident occurred on Saturday in Adilabad, where 50-year-old Jadav Devrao, a tribal farmer, consumed poison in a private bank. Sources suggest that Devrao was overwhelmed by financial burdens and unmet promises made by the Congress government, which pushed him to take the extreme step.

Devrao, a farmer from the erstwhile Adilabad district, had reportedly been struggling to cope with the mounting pressure of unpaid debts and a lack of support from government schemes. The tragic event has highlighted the ongoing struggles faced by farmers in the region, particularly those burdened by unmet promises from the previous administration.

The CCTV footage, which has since gone viral on social media, shows Devrao collapsing after ingesting poison. It has sparked a wave of condemnation, with BRS working president KT Rama Rao calling the incident “a gut-wrenching testament to the Congress government’s failed administration.” Rama Rao termed the footage as “hard evidence” of the false narratives repeatedly pushed by the Congress, criticizing their failure to meet promises made to the farmers.

“This is daylight murder of a Telangana farmer by your Congress government,” Rama Rao said in a post directed at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Devrao’s family is now left in dire straits, with his wife, who is ailing and suffering from kidney disease, and his son facing an uncertain future. The despair that led to Devrao’s tragic decision is believed to have been exacerbated by the Congress government’s failure to deliver on key promises, including the Rs 15,000 per acre Rythu Bharosa investment support, which was meant to help farmers like Devrao.

Rama Rao further criticized the Congress for its broken promises, including the Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver, which he claimed had not been extended to even 40 percent of the farmers. He described the Rythu Bharosa investment scheme as a “bigger farce,” claiming that the government had reneged on its commitment to provide Rs 15,000 per acre per annum.

“The video of Jadav Devrao’s suicide is proof of what we have been saying – not even 40 percent of farmers received the Rs 2 lakh farm loan waiver promised by the Congress,” Rama Rao posted on X.

He urged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to witness the struggles of Telangana farmers firsthand, stating, “Jadav Devrao is not the only farmer losing hope. See for yourself the wreckage of your lofty promises and failed governance that have pushed the farming sector into the dark ages. Telangana farmers are crying out for justice.”

The tragic incident has once again brought the issue of farmers’ welfare to the forefront of political discourse in Telangana, with calls for immediate action to address the crisis before more lives are lost.
