In a poignant display of their grievances, farmers from Mukhra (K) village in Echoda mandal Adilabad staged a protest on Monday, using selfies to highlight their frustration over the delay in extending crop loan waivers. Posing with their land titles, the farmers clicked selfies and sent them to the office of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, drawing attention to their plight.
During the election campaign, Revanth Reddy had promised to waive crop loans, a commitment that remains unfulfilled for those with loans exceeding Rs 2 lakh. Farmers voiced their concerns, stating that they had been forced to seek loans from private lenders at exorbitant interest rates due to the government’s inaction.
“We are left with no choice but to borrow money from private lenders,” they lamented. The protestors also expressed disappointment over the government’s failure to extend the Rythu Bharosa scheme, which they believed would provide necessary financial relief.

The farmers articulated the dire financial crisis they are currently facing, warning that the situation could lead to tragic outcomes, including suicides, if not addressed promptly. They demanded immediate action from the government to waive crop loans above Rs 2 lakh and extend the Rythu Bharosa scheme.
If their demands remain unmet, they have declared their intention to lay siege to the Secretariat in a bid to achieve their objectives. Prominent figures in the protest included Gadge Subash, Tirupathi, Ashok, Maruthi, and Gnaneshwar, all of whom echoed the urgent need for government intervention.
The farmers’ innovative use of selfies in their protest serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the agricultural community in Telangana, urging the government to take swift action to alleviate their hardships.
