Following heavy inflows, authorities lifted one gate of Himayath Sagar again

Following incessant rain on Monday – that last the city and suburban area and battered several low lying areas Yesterday, the officials at Himayat Sagar Lake has lifted one gate again to release the water into Musi River course.

According to Sources, the Monday night rain brought fresh inflows into the lake that prompted them to reopen the gate just a few days after it was closed. “As the lake receives inflows of 400 cusecs, one gate was opened upto one foot at 2.30 pm today to release 350 cusecs of water into Musi River. The present water level at Himayath Sagar Lake stood at 17.25 feet (2.875 TMC) as against the full tank capacity of 1763.50 feet (2.97 TMC),” the official informed.

Only a few days earlier the officials closed the last standing gate of Himayath Sagar following no inflows from catchment areas into the reservoir. The gates of both Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar Lakes were opened on September 4 after witnessing significant inflows into the reservoirs.

It is pertinent to mention here that, it was this period last year when the torrential rains started putting a significant impact over the storage capacities of the lakes in and around the city and eventually caused severe damages to bunds leaving dozens of people dead and displaced.
