In reaction to an alleged threat made by AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi against a police officer, Telangana BJP Chief G Kishan Reddy stated that individuals such as Owaisi would suffer consequences if the BJP were to take power in the state. He stressed that strict action would be taken and that they would “stay in jail.”
Akbaruddin Owaisi was arrested for publicly threatening a police inspector who was executing the Telangana assembly elections model code of conduct. Based on a complaint filed by the Santosh Nagar SHO, the case was lodged under Section 353 (obstructing official functions) of the IPC and other pertinent provisions.
Reddy declared in response to the issue, “After the BJP comes to power, we will take action against such people, and they will stay in jail.”
Earlier in his defense, Akbaruddin Owaisi disputed the police account of events, claiming to have video proof of the officer entering the stage. He said that the police were wrong to hinder a public assembly and impose time limits.
The incident occurred during Akbaruddin Owaisi’s campaign in Hyderabad’s Lalitabagh, where he allegedly ordered the police officer to leave the area and implied that if signaled, his supporters may make the officer flee. AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi defended his brother, claiming that the officer should not have intervened with only “five minutes” left in the day’s campaign.
Akbaruddin Owaisi is running from the Chandrayangutta constituency, which has historically been a bastion for the AIMIM, which has won the seat thrice. Telangana will hold elections on November 30, with the counting of votes scheduled for December 3. The state anticipates a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling BRS, and the Congress.
