GHMC Elections: Campaign to be End on 29th November

GHMC polls campaigning should be finished by 6 pm on 29th November in the entirety of GHMC wherever the elections are notified, M Ashok Kumar, Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC), stated on Saturday.

According to Section 600 of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955,
1) After 6 pm no person shall,-

A) Convene, hold, join or address any public meeting or procession in connection with an election; or

B) Display to the public any election matter by means of cinematography television or other similar apparatus; or

C) Propagate any election matter to the public by holding or by arranging the holding of, any musical concert or any theatrical performance or any other entertainment or amusement with a view to attracting the public.

Therefore, the election campaign in whatever form or manner prescribed above shall end by 6.00 pm on 29.11.2020 in the entire GHMC. Any contravention of this law is an offense and punishable with imprisonment that may extend to two years or with fine or both under Section 600 (2) of GHMC Act, 1955.

All the contesting candidates, political parties, campaign managers, and managers in charge of electronic media should take note of this to comply with the provisions of law to end the election campaign at 6.00 pm on 29.11.2020.

Polling will commence from 7 am to 6 pm on December 1. The Bandobust plan incorporates the deployment of around 25,000 to 30,000 police personnel for GHMC elections. GHMC decisions will be held as per the ECI issued COVID-19 guidelines, everybody wearing face masks, sanitizers, and keeping up social distancing. The election code came into effect right away.

Around 74 lakh electors will practice their franchise in more than 9,000 polling stations.

There are around 150 divisions in GHMC. The elected corporators will hence elect the Mayor.
