600 Nominations Filed on Final Day for GHMC Polls

Hyderabad: On the final day of nominations for GHMC elections, a huge number of candidates of different political parties have submitted their nomination papers.

As per the information, more than 600 nominations were submitted on the final day. The complete number of nominations submitted was more than 1000 for 150 seats. While yesterday, 537 candidates submitted 597 nominations for different divisions in the GHMC area for the polls.

The state election commission will scrutinise them on 21st November and withdrawals of the same be on 22. The polling according to the schedule is slated to be conducted on December 1 and counting will be held on 4 and the results will be announced on the same day.

The candidates came to election returning officers with local leaders, and activists and sent the same. A total of 150 divisions are going for the big polls and there is tremendous competition. The TRS, the BJP, the Congress and others have announced their lists of the candidates.

The big battle is to be among the TRS, BJP and the Congress while a couple of other parties are also trying their luck. They have roped in the candidate who can win and are in the conflict as all the main parties are claiming to the mayor post.

Nearly 74 lakh electors will practice their franchise in more than 9,000 polling stations. There are about 150 divisions in GHMC. The elected corporators will therefore elect the Mayor.

Polling will begin from 7 am to 6 pm on December 1. The Bandobust plan includes the deployment of around 25,000 to 30,000 police personnel for GHMC elections. GHMC elections will be conducted according to ECI issued COVID-19 rules, everyone wearing face masks, sanitizers, and keeping up social distancing. The election code came into effect immediately.
