GHMC Employee Detained for False Attendance Scam

Sabavath Ravi Kumar, a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) employee working as a sanitary field assistant (SFA) in Circle 14, Goshamahal, was detained by the city’s Central Crime Station (CCS) for a false attendance scam employing outsourced personnel.

Ravi Kumar used counterfeit fingerprints to register attendance for 22 outsourced employees working under him, according to the CCS probe. This fake attendance system allowed him to report the presence of absent or late personnel and earn commissions from them in exchange.

The CCS also seized the fake fingerprints used in the scam, as well as a biometric system used to track the presence of these outsourced workers.

The GHMC employee’s arrest emphasizes the need of building and maintaining comprehensive attendance and time tracking systems to preserve accurate records and avoid fraudulent operations like this one. Such methods are necessary for fair labor management and employee responsibility, especially in public institutions such as municipal corporations.
