Telangana’s Political Climate Heats Up Ahead of Assembly Elections”

Telangana’s political climate is heating up as the state assembly elections near. KT Rama Rao (KTR) of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a news conference on October 28 at the Bashir Bagh news Club, right before the elections.

KTR replied to Home Minister Amit Shah’s speech at the BJP’s ‘Jana Garjana Sabha’ in Suryapet on October 27, in which Shah vowed that if the BJP won the polls, it will choose a Chief Minister from the Backward Classes (BC). In response, KTR chastised the BJP, challenging their credibility after replacing their BC state president with G. Kishan Reddy and then declaring a BC CM candidate.

KTR, a major BRS leader, outlined the government’s accomplishments in the previous two terms and expressed optimism in gaining a third term. He revealed lofty future plans, such as making Hyderabad a net-zero city by 2040 using public transit (TSRTC) and electric cars (EVs).

He emphasized Telangana’s growth over the previous nine years, stressing the state’s top ranking in Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) and success in ease of doing business. He also emphasized Telangana’s important contribution to vaccine manufacturing, as well as the existence of medical institutes in each district. KTR boasted that Hyderabad had eclipsed Bangalore in the IT sector.

KTR defended the Kaleshwaram project against criticism, pointing out that it supplied water to isolated areas. He further stressed that no public monies were utilized to complete the project or to repair the Medigadda barrage.

KTR did not spare the Congress, dubbing it the country’s “white elephant” and challenged the party to come to Karnataka and confront farmers about the state’s electricity supply crisis. He accused opposition parties, including the BJP, of seeking votes but not contributing to the development of the state.

He raised alarm over communal violence, claiming that Muslims were being targeted in some sections of the country in the name of religion. Despite the difficulties, KTR talked boldly about Telangana’s accomplishments, highlighting the administration’s record of employment creation, which he said was quicker than any other government in the country.

The press conference shows the fierce political battle in Telangana as it prepares for the state assembly elections on November 30. The BRS wants a third term in office, while the BJP and Congress are aggressively pushing for influence in the state. The outcome of these elections will have far-reaching consequences for Telangana’s political scene in the future.
