GHMC plans to vaccinate all 18+ by Sept 9; special drive begins tomorrow

If things go as planned, the GHMC will be able to administer every person aged 18 and above by September 9th within its limits, the department said.

To achieve the goal, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will be increasing the number of mobile vaccination teams that work to administer vaccines to all. They will be increased from 90 to 150. Vaccinating all would mean everyone who resides in the 4,846 colonies, which get included in the GHMC limits. The civic body’s Commissioner Lokesh Kumar directed the Zonal Commissioners and the Deputy Commissioners to ensure the inoculation process gets completed by the date decided.

All colonies, apartments, complexes, and housing societies will be listed and dates would be scheduled for vaccinating residents. These vaccines will be administered free of cost to all eligible recipients following which stickers would be stuck on their respective houses. Once every person in all the houses in a colony become vaccinated, it will be declared as a fully vaccinated colony. Apart from this, a “Fully Vaccinated Colony” certificate will also be given to the resident welfare associations.

Speaking about the same, a GHMC official said, “In the colonies where the vaccination process has been fully completed, a banner will be erected at two or three prominent locations in that colony.”

As some people are still engulfed with a fear of the vaccine, public representatives and influencers have been approached by the GHMC to create awareness about the need for getting vaccinated through the assistance of media. They will also be visiting all houses and talking to the residents to ensure they agree to get the vaccine.

Currently, 50 vaccination centres are at work to offer free vaccinations to about 15,000 people on a daily basis. Another 90 mobile vaccination teams gear up every day to inoculate 20,000 people.

A special vaccination drive is due to begin on August 23rd in the GHMC and Cantonment areas. The decision was made during a meeting held on Saturday by Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar. In attendance were other officials including Lokesh Kumar, SAM Rizvi, Secretary, Health, and Ajit Reddy, CEO, Secunderabad Cantonment Board.

This drive will extend for 10-15 days and ensure all 4,846 colonies, slum areas and other places falling under the GHMC limits are covered, including the 360 areas of the Cantonment.

The GHMC area will be allotted 150 mobile vaccine vehicles while 25 will be deployed in the Cantonment with mobile teams who will go door-to-door to identify unjabbed individuals in advance who require vaccination.

The region has sufficient vaccines to ensure mass inoculation and a successful drive. The special drive will be made popular through banners, autos with stickers and audio announcements, and representatives. Somesh Kumar requested citizens to take advantage of the drive and get jabbed.
