Hyderabad Faces Water Tanker Delays Despite Claims of Round-the-Clock Supply

Residents in Hyderabad are facing delays in water supply through tankers, despite claims by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) officials that they are operating round the clock. Some areas are experiencing waits of more than five days for booked tankers.

At the Banjara Hills water filling station, tankers were seen fulfilling orders from April 7 and 8, indicating a lag of four days in fulfilling requests. Residents are expressing concern over these delays, especially with the onset of the hot summer months.

Srinivas from Yousufguda, Krishna Nagar, highlighted the issue, stating, “We often receive tankers four to five days after booking, raising worries about future water shortages.” Complaints are also pouring in on social media platforms like Twitter, with users expressing frustration over the water supply situation.

Despite an increase in the number of water tankers from 550 to 738, delays persist. There are reports of the board using old vehicles, some over 15 years old, to meet the demand for water supply. Additionally, vehicles previously seized for illegal water supply are now being employed by the water board.

Efforts to mitigate delays include initiating water supply during the night. However, challenges such as narrow roads and restricted access prevent tankers from reaching certain areas during nighttime. As a result, water delivery to these areas occurs during the day, further complicating the situation.
