From Sunday, the southwest monsoon is expected to become active in the city, with light to moderate rains predicted till Monday by the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS).

It is expected that there will be light to moderate rain in the State capital, according to the India Meteorological Department – Hyderabad.

For the next three days, the maximum temperature is expected to hover between 29 and 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be 22 degrees Celsius.

According to the forecast, localities including LB Nagar, Uppal, Malakpet, Saroornagar, Secunderabad, Rajendranagar, Amberpet, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, Kapra, Charminar, Hayatnagar, Jubilee Hills and Moosarambagh will receive rainfall between 2.5 mm and 15.6 mm until Monday morning.

The city has received less than half the amount of rain considered normal for this time of year during the first week of August. The rainfall in Hyderabad between August 4 and 10 was only 22.3 mm. By this time of year, it gets an average of 45.4 millimeters of rain.

In spite of this, the city still has a surplus of rain that has fallen during the monsoon. As a result of intense rains in July, the cumulative rainfall for the month reached 144.2 mm, compared with the normal precipitation of 38.1 mm.

The monsoon season usually lasts until September 30 in the state capital.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has identified water-logging points within its boundaries and has begun nala desilting work to prevent nalas from overflowing during rains. GHMC officials, Monsoon Emergency teams, and Karwan MLA Kausar Mohdiudding inspected several waterlogging points and nalas that pose a threat to nearby residents during heavy rains.

According to the MLA, these nalas are currently experiencing heavy outflows as a result of the recent rains.
