Hyderabad: GHMC officials relocate 1,500 people near Musi river to shelters

With floods threatening Hyderabad as a result of massive amounts of water being drained into the Musi River from Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has relocated approximately 1,500 people whose homes are located near the Musi River basin and in areas prone to inundation.

Around 1,500 people have been relocated to nearby shelter homes, and the GHMC has made food and other arrangements for their stay.

Mayor G Vijaya Laxmi announced on Twitter on Wednesday that the people were relocated by the GHMC in collaboration with the Revenue Departments.

The Mayor tweeted that 1500 residents have been evacuated from the Musi downstream flowing area and moved to shelter homes due to increased flood levels. All necessary arrangements have been made for the residents at the shelters in coordination with @CPHydCity. @KTRTRS.

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) lifted one more gate of Osman Sagar and two more gates of Himayat Sagar earlier in the day, with the twin city receiving heavy inflows from the two reservoirs. At the moment, 13 Osman Sagar gates are open up to six feet, and eight Himayat Sagar gates are open up to four feet.
