Hyderabad: Special campaign launched to combat mosquito menace

Due to an increase in dengue cases throughout the State, the “10 minutes at 10 am on every Sunday” anti-dengue campaign is once again in effect. Along with MLAs and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) members, Health Minister T Harish Rao conducted one of these events on Sunday close to his residence.

In order to stop mosquitoes from reproducing, the Minister removed stagnant water from plant pots. The primary cause of dengue throughout the day is a mosquito bite, thus residents are urged to drain it. In order to stop the spread of dengue, he also urged people to set aside 10 minutes each Sunday to clean up the water and trash near their homes.

On July 25, Harish urged the district Collectors to stay watchful of the campaign during a review meeting. He gave the order for many state officials to clean the surroundings around them, including Rajendra Nagar, Jawahar Nagar, and districts like Siddipet and Peddapalli.

According to Ram Babu, Chief Entomologist of the GHMC Entomology Department, 4,846 colonies have been found within the GHMC boundaries, and awareness campaigns will be held to make sure that residents are using mosquito control techniques in their houses. He continued by saying that the GHMC would aggressively fog and spray the colonies.

The campaign also includes anti-larvae operations in ponds, lakes, and tanks, Gambusia fish in lake areas, oil balls in unclean water, notifications via Swachh autos, and distribution of educational materials including pamphlets, stickers, and cloth banners.
