A total of 146 km of vacuum dewatered cement concrete roads (VDCC) are being built by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) this financial year with an outlay of Rs 158.67 crore. This will significantly improve the experience of traveling on city roads.
The corporation completed eight kilometers of VDCC roads at a cost of Rs 10.75 crore by July, while 33 kilometers with an outlay of Rs 41.16 crore are currently in construction.
In a press release, the GHMC said that the laying of 73.12 km with Rs 76.30 crore will start soon, while work on 27.10 km is in the tender stage, and work on 4.3 km is on hold.
VDCC roads were chosen over regular bitumen roads by the municipal corporation in order to prevent rainwater stagnation. In addition to improving the strength and durability of concrete, this new technology reduces the water-cement ratio immediately after the mix is placed while laying roads.
