In a decisive move to reclaim Hyderabad’s water bodies from encroachers, the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRA) has launched an aggressive campaign, leading to the demolition of illegal constructions at 18 locations across the city. This operation, conducted in collaboration with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), has resulted in the recovery of 43 acres of land.
The crackdown, which began in earnest a few days ago, has targeted various high-profile encroachments, including those linked to prominent figures. On Saturday, HYDRA, along with GHMC officials, demolished the N Convention Centre owned by film star Akkineni Nagarjuna. However, this demolition faced a setback when the High Court issued a stay order shortly after the operation concluded.
The demolition drives have focused on constructions within buffer zones and Full Tank Level (FTL) areas of lakes. Among the notable actions, HYDRA removed encroachments from the following sites:

Film Nagar Co-operative Society (Plot No 30): Encroachment on a park, recovering 0.16 acres.
Mansoorabad, Sahara Estate Road: Encroachment on a road widening area, recovering 0.2 acres.
Mithila Nagar, Road No. 12, Banjara Hills: Encroachment involving an ACC sheet shed and compound wall, recovering 1.4 acres.
BJR Nagar: RCC slab encroachment on a Nala, recovering 5 acres.
Chintal Lake, Gajularamaram: Asbestos sheet roof structures encroaching the lake, recovering 3.5 acres. Allegations against local BRS leader Ratnakaram Sai Raju were noted.
Nandagiri Hills, Road No 69, Jubilee Hills: Park encroachment by Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender, recovering 0.18 acres.
Bam Rukn Ud-Dowla Lake, Rajendranagar: Buildings by MIM MLA Mohd Mubeen and MLC Mirza Rahmat Baig, recovering 12 acres.
In addition to these, 15.2 acres were reclaimed from Gandipet Lake, Khanapur, and Chilkur. Notable encroachments removed included those linked to Pallam Raju’s brother Pallam Anand (ORO Sports), Congress Party members, Kaveri Seeds owner & ex-TTD Member GV Bhasker Rao, BJP candidate Sunil Reddy, and Anupama, wife of Srinivas (Pro-Kabaddi owner).
HYDRA’s aggressive stance underscores the government’s commitment to protecting Hyderabad’s natural resources and addressing illegal land use. The agency’s efforts mark a significant step towards ensuring the integrity of the city’s water bodies and urban landscapes.
