IMD issues orange alert for Hyderabad as intense rainfall, hailstorm expected today

As a result of the intense rainfall and hailstorm forecast for April 27, 2023, IMD Hyderabad has issued an orange alert for Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana. Toward the evening or night after a day’s break, the city will experience heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and hailstorms.

IMD Hyderabad predicts a generally cloudy sky with light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers in Charminar, Khairatabad, Kukatpally, LB Nagar, Secunderabad, and Serilingampally.

Besides Hyderabad, other Telangana districts such as Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagityal, Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Siddipet, Rangareddy, Medchal Malkajigiri, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, and Mahabubnagar are also expected to experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds.

Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) has also forecast light to moderate rain today.

The maximum temperature in Hyderabad is expected to be 36-40 degrees Celsius, with no significant difference in temperature.

Power outages, traffic jams during heavy rains

It is true that Hyderabad’s rainfall brings respite from the summer heat, but it also poses a number of challenges, especially when it comes to power cuts and heavy traffic.

Since the city’s electrical infrastructure is not always capable of withstanding severe rainfall, outages can continue for hours. Heavy traffic is another issue that emerges with rainfall in Hyderabad. The city’s roads are frequently congested, and the situation worsens when it rains. Traffic jams can cause lengthy delays, making it difficult for individuals to arrive on time. Residents are asked to remain cautious and take necessary precautions in light of the forecasts issued by both IMD Hyderabad and TSDPS. It is advised to avoid traveling during the heavy downpour and, if possible, to stay indoors.
