IMD predicts Telangana could face monsoon between June 5-10

Telangana is expected to face the Southwest monsoon between June 5 and June 10 according to the latest report from the India Meteorological Department, Hyderabad.

The news comes as a huge relive with the temperatures shooting up to 40 degrees Celsius and dipping to 35 degrees Celsius the next day, with no rain and high humidity levels. The summer season this year has truly tested the city’s tolerance levels.

Scientist in charge at IMD-Hyderabad, A Sravani, said the hot scorching weather might soon subside, though relative humidity levels might remain high.

“From around June 5 to June 10, the Southwest monsoon is expected to begin in the State. Kerala is expected to experience the southwest monsoon on May 27, which could bring an end to the summer by the first week of June,” the official said.

A bulletin released on Wednesday reports that the Southwest monsoon has advanced into some more parts of southeast Bay of Bengal, the entire Andaman and Nicobar islands, the entire Andaman Sea, and some parts of east-central Bay of Bengal.

It is believed that remnants of Cyclone Asani were responsible for the early arrival of the Southwest monsoon well ahead of its normal date of June 1. The monsoon season in Telangana usually begins on June 12. There are indications that it may be about a week earlier this year.

In the meantime, IMD officials said the city would see generally cloudy skies, thunderstorms with light to moderate rain in some areas, and a day temperature of 35-38 degrees Celsius until Sunday. It is likely that the same weather pattern will continue across the state.

Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial and Nirmal, which have been experiencing hot days, are also likely to see a drop in daytime temperatures over the next few days.
