Hyderabad Airport wins the Green Airport Award for the fifth time in a row

For the fifth consecutive year, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport run by GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) has been awarded silver by the Airports Council International.

This award recognizes RGIA’s commitment to managing carbon in the Asia Pacific region in the category of 15-50 Million Passengers per Annum (MPPA).

RGIA has won this award for five consecutive years, starting in 2018, according to a press release. By promoting environmental best practices, ACI’s Green Airports Recognition program minimises the ecological impact of the aviation industry.

The RGIA, according to GHIAL officials, encourages initiatives like green buildings, renewable energy use, energy conservation, eco-friendly refrigerants usage, and fuel conservation, as well as green belt development and carbon sinking.

GHIAL has adopted ACI’s ‘Airport Carbon Accreditation programme to become the first Asian airport in its category to achieve Carbon Neutral Level 3+ status and is working towards becoming a Net Zero Carbon Emission Airport, GHIAL CEO Pradeep Panicker said.

RGIA launches migration help desk

A 24-hour Migrant Help Desk is now available at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), a major development by the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL), in partnership with Telangana Overseas Manpower (TOMCOM).

In particular, the desk serves vulnerable migrants travelling to Kuwait and Qatar.

As part of its mission to raise awareness about safe and legal migration, the help desk will provide assistance to vulnerable migrants, such as domestic workers, housemaids, and labourers, on the proper documentation and paperwork required for emigration clearance.

Situated at the international departure terminal, the desk will work around the clock, according to a press release. Pradeep Panicker, who spoke about the initiative, said there had been a gradual increase in outbound migrant workers from Hyderabad to the Middle East in the last few years.
