Improved Basti Dawakhana services to treat viral diseases in Hyderabad

The infrastructure of Basti Dawakhanas in Hyderabad and Secunderabad is urgently in need of improvement as well as an increase in working hours to handle patients suffering from viral diseases such as typhoid, dengue, Chikungunya, cold, cough, body aches, and more.

People in the middle and lower classes greatly benefit from the Basti Dawakhana under Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. However, people are facing great inconvenience because this Dawakhana only operates for a short time. Neither of these Dawakhanas has an emergency doctor available.

To test how people respond to these Dawakhanas, the health department decided to open them in the evening hours.

A variety of free health services are provided by these centers, including outpatient consultations, medicines, basic laboratory diagnosis, antenatal and postnatal care, and screening for non-communicable diseases. Dawa khana doctors also provide specialist consultation via Telemedicine at Basti Dawakhanas.

Locals say Basti Dawakhana is very helpful to them, especially those who cannot afford private hospitals. In addition to providing good treatment with the necessary medications, the doctors have addressed a variety of health issues here.

According to a patient, I’ve been coming here for treatment for the past two years.”. All patients, even the elderly, receive free treatment here.  There is good service provided by the Telangana Government. Our gratitude goes out to the KCR government for providing medical assistance to nearby houses.

According to another patient, we are receiving treatment for coughs, fevers, and colds. Here, the doctors are humble and good. Responses are given immediately. There is a lot of good work being done by the state government.”

In addition to reducing travel costs and waiting times for patients, Basti Dawakhanas serves as an efficient platform to connect with other NHM programs and reduces the burden on tertiary and secondary health care facilities.
