Minor lovers in Peddapalli end lives after parents oppose their relationship

Due to their parents’ rejection of their proposal for marriage, two youngsters committed suicide in Kanukula of Sultanabad Mandal.

As a reason of their age and caste differences, their parents opposed their marriage proposal, villagers said. The boy decided to consume pesticide on Monday and the girl jumped into a well the next day.

The incident occurred in Kanukula, Sultanabad mandal. Both Shiva and Sushmita were in love with each other and had decided to get married. Sushmita and Shiva’s parents came to know of their love affair somehow and warned them both. In addition to their parents, the local police offered both Shiva and Sushmita counselling.

As both minors were from different castes, the parents had refused to perform their marriage. On top of that, the police had also refused to allow the lovers to get married because they were both minors.

Outraged by the parents’ attitude, they decided to take their own lives. Shiva tried to commit suicide by eating pesticides inside his home on Monday. He passed away while undergoing treatment in the night at Karimnagar hospital, where he was taken by his family.
