Monsoon rains keep on sounding alarm in rain affected areas

Lifting gates of Himayath Sagar and Osman Sagar Lakes keep blowing an alarming sound for residents living alongside the Musi River and the water bodies getting fed through Firangi Nala, flowing all the way from Vikarabad district to Hyderabad City passing through several hundred colonies.

While the heavy inflows from catchment areas keep marking its way directly into the fresh water reservoirs, the rain continues to make an impact over the water levels in both the reservoirs forcing the authorities to keep the doors open to feed the Musi River.

This has led to an alarming situation where people living alongside the Musi River and close to water bodies have to remain alert and endure the tides of adversities till nature’s fury shakes off.

Colonies battered with consistent rains especially on the right side of the Firangi Nala moving through Appa Cheruvu Gagan Pahad to other water bodies in the downward direction via Jalpally, Gurram Cheruvu (Balapur Lake) are the primary and perennial victims of nature’s fury.

People in several areas around water bodies especially Bismillah Colony, Osman Nagar, Royal Colony, Ali Gulshan Colony, Nabeel Colony, Metro Colony, Shaheen Nagar and Kothapet abutting to Gurram Cheruvu and Osman Nagar are still coping with the rain related issue while the local municipality officials are remain on their toes ever since the monsoon season sets into motion.

The entire municipal machinery has been thrown into service in areas severely affected with incessant rains and turned the colonies into cesspools and quagmires.

Colonies that were built without proper planning and secure rudimentary infrastructure are bearing the brunt of the storm water gushing in from all directions. Rallying after leaders for a feasible solution to rain related havoc, the residents in many areas are now coming into terms and are repenting for their follies.

“Hanging their heads with guilt, several forlorn families living close to water bodies, especially around Osman Nagar are flocking to safe abodes or knocking the door of relatives atleast for the time being. All they could do now is to wait until the situation improves that may allow them to return back to their houses and remain inundated in the flood water,” bemoaned Ahmed Bin Abdul Raheem, a resident of Barkas.

“As long as the official machinery is concerned, they too can’t help people out of the crisis out of the blue as the intricate issue needs a comprehensive and concerted approach involving the government’s seal of endorsement on proposals to reach to a concrete solution,” he added.
