New Museum in Delhi to Showcase Life, Contribution of Sir Syed Ahmad Khan

Aligarh: Historical records and pictures showcasing founder of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Sir Syed Ahmad Khan’s life, work, and contribution to educational and social reforms, description of different stages of Muhammadan Anglo-Oriental (MAO) College to the foundation of AMU in 1920 and many other artifacts will be showcased at a New Delhi situated new museum.

The declaration to open a new museum dedicated to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan was made by the prominent entrepreneur and President of the India Islamic Cultural Centre, Mr. Sirajuddin Qureshi in the valedictory function of AMU Centenary International Webinar on ‘The Establishment of Aligarh Muslim University and its Achievements (1920-2020)’ coordinated by the Sir Syed Academy.

Mr. Qureshi said that Sir Syed was not just an ordinary educationist, historian, author, and jurist but an extra-ordinary reformer, secular nationalist, and one of the most significant architects of modern India. People in Delhi should be presented with unfettered access to life and contributions of Sir Syed exhibited in an advanced museum.

AMU Vice-Chancellor, Prof Tariq Mansoor added: “We will provide Mr. Qureshi with all the necessary help and cooperation for the museum project.”

Giving the presidential remarks in the online valedictory function, Prof Mansoor said: “Sir Syed’s memory is not only for AMU but for the whole Nation.”

He brought up that around 45-50 papers on AMU accomplishments in different streams have been presented in the two-day webinar. The proceedings of the program will moreover be published in a book.

The Vice-Chancellor additionally said that commendable work has been carried out in the Sir Syed Academy including publishing of books related to AMU history to commemorate the centenary year.

He encouraged Sir Syed Academy members to translate significant rare books and literature.

Prof Mansoor said: “We also have plans to begin the Ph.D. program in the Sir Syed Academy.”

In the welcome address, Prof Ali Mohammad Naqvi, Director, Sir Syed Academy stated that AMU represents Indian pluralism uncovered in Vedantas and Upanishads, the ethos of Sufi saints, and the Ganga Jamuna Tehzeeb (Culture).

Dr. Mohammad Shahid, Deputy Director, Sir Syed Academy introduced the guests and spoke on the history of AMU from the origin of MAO College to the modern-day center of learning. He additionally extended the vote of gratitude to all the guests.
