New Zoo Park Planned on Hyderabad’s Outskirts

In a significant move aimed at enhancing the city’s green spaces and promoting wildlife conservation, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to initiate plans for a new zoo park on the outskirts of Hyderabad. This directive was given during a review meeting held at the state secretariat, where the Chief Minister discussed various SPEED (Smart, Proactive, Efficient, and Effective Delivery) projects that are currently underway in the state.

The new zoo park is expected to complement the existing Nehru Zoological Park, a well-known attraction that has served the city for over six decades. Spread across 380 acres, the Nehru Zoo Park is located near the historic Mir Alam Tank in Bahadurpura and has been a popular destination for both residents and tourists. The park, which was officially inaugurated on October 6, 1963, originally replaced the earlier zoo enclosures situated at the Public Gardens. Its construction began on October 26, 1959, and took four years to complete.

The decision to develop an additional zoo park aligns with the government’s broader vision to expand recreational facilities while preserving the region’s biodiversity. With Hyderabad’s rapid urbanization, the need for more green spaces and wildlife conservation areas has become increasingly pressing. The new zoo park is expected to relieve the pressure on Nehru Zoo Park, providing a modern, eco-friendly space for wildlife to thrive and for people to engage with nature.

Details regarding the exact location and size of the new zoo park have yet to be finalized, but officials are expected to begin scouting suitable sites in the coming weeks. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of ensuring that the new zoo park incorporates advanced facilities and adopts sustainable practices to create a world-class environment for both animals and visitors.

The Nehru Zoo Park has long been a symbol of Hyderabad’s commitment to wildlife conservation and environmental education. Over the years, it has introduced various innovative programs and exhibits, contributing significantly to the preservation of endangered species. The proposed new zoo park will build on this legacy, potentially offering more space and modern amenities to further these efforts.

As Hyderabad continues to grow, the addition of a new zoo park on the outskirts of the city reflects the state government’s proactive approach to urban planning and environmental stewardship. The project is part of a broader strategy to enhance the quality of life for Hyderabad’s residents while positioning the city as a leader in sustainable development.

The state government is expected to release further details about the project in the near future, including timelines and potential collaborations with wildlife experts and conservationists. As plans take shape, the new zoo park promises to be a valuable addition to Hyderabad’s landscape, offering a fresh venue for wildlife preservation and public enjoyment.
