Osmania University Restores Historic Arts College

The Osmania University administration is embarking on an ambitious restoration project for the historic Arts College building. The 84-year-old granite structure has suffered from water seepage issues, causing damage to both its exterior and interior walls. The administration’s restoration plan begins with implementing a modern waterproofing system to address these issues without altering the building’s original structure.

The current project involves removing the old Atactic Polypropylene (APP) membrane sheets, which were laid on the terrace in 1998 and 2008 to prevent rainwater leakage. The university is now replacing these sheets with a new waterproofing system. The process also includes floor grinding, crack filling with epoxy chemicals, and the application of waterproofing material and solar reflective paint to the roof.

The primary concern is to prevent rainwater leakage, and once this is addressed, the university plans to undertake interior beautification works. Additionally, the restoration will include repairing damaged features, such as window panes, and the reinstallation of the chandelier at the central dome of the college building. Modernization of the college’s toilets is also on the agenda.
