Osmania University Students Demand Removal of Barricades and Open Campus Access

Since the initiation of elections, students at Osmania University have been vocal in their demands for the removal of barricades surrounding the university gates. Hemanth, a Mass Communication and Journalism student, expressed the students’ collective stance, stating, “We are urging the administration officials to dismantle the barricades at the university gates and extend the gate opening hours until 11 pm.

Additionally, some students have accused the Vice-Chancellor (VC) of eliminating barricades near the police station, allowing unrestricted vehicle movement 24*7. We are advocating for an open-campus environment and resisting the university’s transformation into a closed space.”

Praveen Kumar Gaddam, an MSc student, echoed the sentiment, saying, “Since the start of the election season, we have consistently called on the VC to remove the barricades. Vice-Chancellor Prof Ravinder’s approach is reminiscent of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s dictatorial style, turning OU into a closed campus.

Barricades and security arrangements have been established near the administration building, university gates, and police station. We demand the removal of barricades to allow unrestricted vehicular movement. Additionally, we are urging the construction of more hostel buildings, especially in light of alarming rates of snake bite incidents in hostels, particularly in the NRS-PhD hostel.”

In response to the students’ allegations, Prof Ravinder defended the university’s actions, stating, “When the Congress party comes to power, all restrictions will be lifted, and there should be no conditions to meet the OU VC’s approval.”
