Over 100 cases of minors recklessly driving in Hyderabad have been booked

No minor is eligible to drive a car or ride a bike in India as it is very dangerous and illegal. However, throughout the last three months, over 100 cases have been booked against minors (those under the age of 18) who were driving various vehicles in the city.

More than 100 reckless minors who were illegally driving vehicles were caught by traffic police officers. The report is based on data from January to March of 2022.

It is illegal in India for a boy or girl under the age of 18 to ride a bike or drive a car. If a person is discovered to be in breach of the law, he or she may face punishment or a fine.

“A minor is ineligible to drive or ride a vehicle, and the definition of minor under Indian law is a person under the age of 18.  There have been previous reports of minors being booked for driving without a licence. However, since the lockdown, the number of minors driving has increased, as has the number of accidents caused by them, Hans India quoted a police officer in charge of traffic infractions in the city.

The officer also stated that to guarantee that minors do not endanger themselves or others, awareness campaigns would be carried out in a variety of locations. Local police stations have also been tasked with the job of conducting programmes for parents and their minor children to educate them on the dangers of children driving.

The officer said: We have observed that minors are easily influenced by youngsters in their localities and are eager to show off their driving abilities despite having had no formal training. We would advise minors not to be influenced by others through awareness campaigns, and we would also ask parents not to give their minor children keys to vehicles.
