Police Commissioner CV Anand reviews security, other provisions for Ashura

In preparation for the August 8 and 9 commemoration of “Yaum-e-Ashura,” City Police Commissioner CV Anand met with Shia community representatives at the Salarjung Museum. He sought their input on security, traffic, and other arrangements.

In his address to community members, CP Anand assures them that all arrangements have been made and has sought the assistance of other departments as well.

Bandobast arrangements have been discussed at internal city police meetings. SHE teams will be deployed along with rapid action forces to keep eve-teasers at bay.

Most of the concerns raised by community members in the previous meeting were resolved, according to the city police chief. In his address, he informed them of the order from the Telangana government to provide an elephant for the procession and urged them to take measures for the elephant’s rest and safety.

The elephant should be brought 2-3 days prior to the procession day so it can rest and acclimate. A veterinary doctor and a tranquilizer should also be available during the procession, according to police.

Shia Muslims will take part in the mourning procession marking the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, which will begin at Bibi-ka-Alam in Dabeerpura and pass through Charminar-Gulzar House, Purani Havel, and Darulshifa, before finishing at Chaderghat.

Senior traffic officers from the traffic wing will be stationed to closely monitor the procession, in addition to a plan for traffic diversion and parking spaces.

In order to ease the movement of the massive procession that will begin from Bibi Ka Alawa in Dabeerpura with the Alam or insignia of martyrs on a decorated elephant.

In preparation for civil works, illumination is being carried out, and officers will also take route surveys to identify any hindrances. A CCTV system will cover the procession route and senior officers will monitor the procession in the field.

“Since this is a mourning procession to express solidarity and to remember Imam Hussain’s great sacrifices, let us honor him with our hearts versus trying to dominate one another,” Anand said candidly, referring to the infighting among the groups that are causing disquiet and concern for law and order.

He also said that ambulances, medical teams, and emergency kits would be on standby.
