Police issue advisory as more rain expected in Hyderabad

Heavy rains lashed the city on Tuesday morning, prompting the Hyderabad Traffic Police to issue an advisory. During the next few hours, it is expected that rain will continue

There is a chance that heavy rains will fall between 9 am and 11 am, which is peak traffic time. In addition, it is mentioned that there may be heavy traffic jams after rain, especially for the first 1-2 hours after it stops.

After the rain stops, commuters are advised not to immediately begin their journey.

It has been raining heavily in Hyderabad for the past few weeks. The Telangana State Development Planning Society reports 125% excess rainfall in the district.

Heavy rains affect normal life

Several minutes after the rains started, the streets of the old city became lakes. Traffic flow was also disrupted due to water logging.

In a recent tweet, T Balaji, also known as Telangana Weatherman, wrote, ‘Dear people of Hyderabad. A HUGE RAIN is directly moving into Hyderabad city. SEVERE DOWNPOUR with thunderstorms ahead in the entire city. This is a serious update, STAY SAFE’

During this time, residents of low-lying areas of cities, especially in the city, live in fear of rainwater entering their houses if water levels in water bodies increase due to regular rainfall.

As a result of the opening of Osman Sagar’s gates, water levels in the Musi river have increased recently. As a result of the huge inflow of water into the river, low-lying areas were inundated. Houses located along the river were flooded.

Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) opened four gates of Osman Sagar to release 1,552 cusecs of water. Tuesday morning, the reservoir level stood at 1,786 feet against 1,790 feet at full capacity.

Himayat Sagar’s two gates were also opened, releasing 660 cusecs of water. There were 1,761 feet of water in the reservoir compared to 1,763 feet in the full tank.
