President Unveils New Attractions at Rashtrapati Nilayam

On December 21, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, unveiled various new tourist attractions at Rashtrapati Nilayam. A historic Flag Post replica, a maze garden, a children’s park, repaired step wells, ancient irrigation systems, Shiva and Nandi sculptures on a rock water cascade, and new enclaves in the Knowledge Gallery are among the attractions.

The 36-meter-tall teak wood Flag Post commemorates the incorporation of Hyderabad state into the Indian Union in 1948. The Murraya Exotica (orange jasmine plant) is the major attraction of the Maze Garden, while the Children’s Park caters to younger visitors.

The repair of three step wells is intended to gather a substantial amount of rainwater yearly, enhancing water security and the sustainability of local resources. Traditional irrigation techniques also try to raise awareness of the area’s past.

Visitors will be drawn to the Dakshinamurthy Shiva seated under a banyan tree facing South and the Nandi Bull on a rock, two of the new attractions. Two new enclaves in the Knowledge Gallery provide knowledge about the unification of Hyderabad and Rashtrapati Bhavan, as well as information about India’s presidents.

Outside the Knowledge Gallery, rock paintings depict many facets of “Ek Bharat, Shresth Bharat,” including scientific and defense achievements, heritage, monuments, and art forms.
Except during the President’s southern visit, Rashtrapati Nilayam is open to the public all year. Visitors can reserve time slots online and visit six days a week (excluding Mondays and government holidays) from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with the last entrance at 4:00 p.m. Walk-in bookings are also accepted at Rashtrapati Nilayam’s Reception Office.
