Significant Seizures in Telangana Ahead of Elections

Seizures of money, gold, and liquor have increased significantly in Telangana in the run-up to the Assembly elections. The total seizure over the previous ten days has reached a whopping Rs. 243.76 crore.

Items worth Rs. 78 crore were confiscated in a 24-hour period ending on October 19, the greatest single-day seizure since the model code of conduct went into force on October 9. Over Rs. 10.13 crore of this was in cash, increasing the total cash seizure to Rs. 87.92 crore.

Precious metals valued over Rs. 57.67 crore, including 83 kilogram of gold, 212 kg of silver, 112.195 carat diamonds, and 5.35 grams of platinum, were also confiscated. The total amount of precious metal seized has reached

Authorities have continued to tighten down on booze distribution. 6,132 liters of liquor were confiscated in the same 24-hour period, increasing the total seizure to 65,223 liters. Other commodities confiscated include 103 kilograms of ganja, totaling 2,950 kg, 43,700 kg of grains, 627 sarees, and other items worth more than Rs. 17.48 crore.

The overall amount of the seizures, which includes money, precious metals, booze, and other things, is far greater than the Rs. 103 crore in cash and gold confiscated during the elections. The Election Commission has set November 30 as the date for the election of 119 members to the state legislature.
