Six people die in Godavari in Nizamabad rural area

Six persons died in the Godavari River at Nizamabad rural area while attending a ritual on Friday. The people gathered at VIP Ghat of Sri Ram Sagar Project near Pochampadu as part of a ritual Theppa Dipam.

This tragedy prevailed in the villages Maklur, Dikupally, and Gupta in Nizamabad district.

In the process, six persons died and one boy was protected from the river according to information.

As part of their ritual people used to take baths in the Godavari to offer Teppa Dipam a regular event. When five people slipped into the water two others tried to protect them. However, six died and only one boy was protected from the water.

According to information, the people gathered at the site for a ritual called Teppa Dipam. It is said that people from Yellammagutta, Dikupally, Maklur, and Nizamabad attended the event and went for Godavari bathing.

The police pressed in expert swimmers who retrieved the bodies of six persons who were identified as — Bobbili Srinivas (40) of Ellammagutta of Nizamabad, his two children Sidharth 16, Srikar 14, Raju (24) of Gupta village in Maklur Mandal, Yogesh 16, Suresh 42 of Dikupally of Nandipet Mandal.

On knowing of the incident in which six persons died, Roads and Buildings Minister V Prashanth Reddy expressed shock and said that the incident was unfortunate.

Prashanth Reddy was attending a program along with IT Minister KT Rama Rao at Khammam town came to know of the incident in his district. The minister said to offer all help to the kin of the family members. He hoped that the families in distress have the courage to overcome painful times.

He instructed the officials to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. Also, MLC Kavitha who represents Nizamabad expressed shock and dismay at the incident. She promised to provide all help to the deceased family members.
