Tailor sets himself on fire at Falaknuma

A tailor, who was planning to marry a minor girl, set himself on fire in front of her house after her parents refused the proposal at Falaknuma on Saturday. Later, he was hospitalized and died.

During the last four years, Mohd Jamal (20) of Mailardevpally worked at a workshop of Mohsin at Falaknuma as a tailor. As he worked at the workshop, he often visited Mohsin’s house to do some work, the police said.

During one of his frequent interactions with Mohsin’s family, Jamal expressed his intention to marry his daughter. His proposal was rejected, however, said Falaknuma sub inspector Venkatesh Jee.

He was clearly informed that she is a minor and that she will be married to another man in the future. Even so, Jamal had been calling on the girl’s mother’s phone and threatening her family for the last two months, police said.

As a result of Jamal’s harassment of Mohsin’s family, Mohsin called Jamal’s elder brother on Saturday evening.

Meanwhile, Jamal, who was inebriated, went to his employer’s house at Bibi ka Chasma carrying a bottle of fuel and an LPG cylinder.

Jamal placed the cylinder on the 2nd floor and knocked on the door of the house. After the family members did not open the door, he doused himself with diesel and set himself ablaze. He fell from the building, said the sub inspector.

Police responded to the incident and rushed him to Osmania General Hospital. He died later of injuries.

Jamal’s family filed a police complaint after his death suspecting the family’s involvement. The Police have filed a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Police have booked a case and are investigating it. “We are probing the case from all angles. Jamal’s family has made a few allegations against Mohsin’s family,” said the official. Police are also investigating why Jamal carried a cylinder to the house.
