The Telangana government has updated its holiday schedule to accommodate the upcoming festivals of Ganesh Chaturthi and Milad-un-Nabi. In a recent announcement, the government has declared September 7th as a holiday for Ganesh Chaturthi and September 17th as the holiday for Milad-un-Nabi.
Originally, Telangana’s calendar designated September 16th for Milad-un-Nabi. However, due to changes in the crescent moon sighting, which affects the Islamic lunar calendar, the holiday has been moved to September 17th. This adjustment aligns with the revised observation of the Islamic festival.
Ganesh Chaturthi, a major Hindu festival celebrating Lord Ganesha, will begin on September 7th. The festival will culminate with Ganesh Nimarjanam (immersion) on September 17th. With this significant event taking place on the same day as the newly scheduled Milad-un-Nabi, there are concerns about potential overlaps.

Due to the Ganesh immersion activities, which include large processions and gatherings, the Milad-un-Nabi procession rally, initially planned for September 17th, is likely to be postponed. Reports suggest that the Milad-un-Nabi procession may now be rescheduled to September 19th to avoid conflicts with the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.
The Telangana government’s adjustment of the holiday dates aims to ensure smooth and respectful observance of both festivals, accommodating the cultural and religious practices of the state’s diverse population. The revised schedule reflects the government’s commitment to managing public celebrations and maintaining harmony during the festive season.
