Telangana: Cyber fraudsters create fake Whatsapp account of collector

Cyber fraudsters nowadays are doing everything they can to make an easy profit. Cyber fraudsters have now devised a scheme to create a fake Whatsapp account and ask relatives and friends for money in an emergency.

The fraudsters created a fake Whatsapp account in the name of Rajanna-Sircilla Collector Anurag Jayanthi along with his profile picture. A mobile number 7466905844 was used to create the account.

The Cybercriminals had opened a fake WhatsApp account in the name of an IAS officer and are requesting money from his friends and relatives. One of the district officials who received the message from the number 7466905844 immediately forwarded it to the Collector. Rajanna-Sircilla Collector took to Twitter to warn the public not to respond to such messages.

Fraudsters dupe man posing as bank officials

Sheikh Shakeel, a resident of Devunipalli village in the municipal area of Kamareddy district headquarters, fell victim to fraudsters on Sunday.

The victim has filed a complaint saying that fraudsters have stolen Rs 2,48,498 lakh from him. Fraudsters are said to have called him and claimed to be bank officials and asked him to cancel the credit card and share the OTP sent by them.

Three OTPs were sent to the victim’s mobile number by the cybercriminals. Shaik Shakeel, who trusted the cyber fraudsters’ words, forwarded three messages to them.

Approximately Rs 98,999 was deducted from his bank account in the first OTP, Rs 99,500 in the second, and Rs 49,999 in the third. In shock, Shakeel approached Kamareddy Rural Sub-Inspector Prasad, who registered a case against the fraudsters and began an investigation.

Fraudsters have extensive experience in the banking field, and they manage to collect bank details such as name, mobile number, type of card, partial card number, etc. Following that, they will call people and ask for OTPs to make money.
