Telangana Mulls Legal Action over Kaleshwaram Irrigation Project

If the contract agencies involved in the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme fail to meet their agreements and do necessary repair work, the Telangana State government is considering legal action.

During a recent review meeting with L&T officials at the Medigadda barrage, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy gave this indication.

Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy expressed worry over the poor quality of work performed by L&T at the Medigadda barrage, which caused piers to collapse and supports to crack. The minister issued a warning to L&T Group director SV Desai, expressing his displeasure with the company’s performance. In response to an agency letter stating problems in carrying out repair work, Minister Reddy declared unequivocally that the organization could not avoid its responsibilities by making excuses.

“We will not spare those who waste public funds and perform subpar work,” said Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy. He directed Irrigation officials to provide a full report on the overall quality of work, including the financial consequences of Medigadda barrage repair work. Officials were also asked to schedule a meeting with the contract agency in charge of the Annaram and Sundilla barrages.

The Telangana government’s action demonstrates its commitment to ensuring contractor accountability and sustaining the quality of critical infrastructure projects such as the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme.
