Telangana: Rajgopal Reddy taken into custody after staging protest

Following a demonstration at the main junction which held up traffic for more than two hours, police took BJP leader Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy into custody and transferred him to Munugode police station.

The vehicles jammed up for more than two kilometers on all four routes as Rajagopal Reddy and 100 followers sat on a dharna at the main junction of Munugode.

Police officers asked Reddy to end the protest, but he argued with them, saying he would continue the dharna until the government responded to the issue of freezing amounts in banks for the sheep distribution scheme.

Afterwards, police took him into custody and transferred him to the Munugode police station. Following the arrest of Rajgopal, it was reported that BJP workers demonstrated outside the police station.

A mild tension prevailed at Munugode when the victory rally of Munugode MLA Koosukuntla Prabhakar Reddy reached Ambedkar center, which is located near the demonstration site. There was an exchange of slogans and counter-slogans at a stage between TRS and BJP workers.

According to Rajagopal Reddy, the State government, which had assured the sheep scheme of providing transferring subsidy amounts to their bank accounts after the by-election, has delayed the transfer.

In the meantime, TRS MLA Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy, after winning the bypoll, toured the constituency for the first time on Monday. The pink party workers held a victory rally in Chandur, and a massive bike rally was held to welcome MLA Prabhakar Reddy.

Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s party TRS had won the by-election in Telangana’s Munugode by more than 10,000 votes.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), which was recently renamed Bharat Rashtra Samithi, had gone all out with the Chief Minister, holding public meetings and mobilizing his entire team of ministers and MLAs to ensure victory.
